GeneDescription ZAR1 in zebrafish has been known to play important role in normal female reproduction in the transition from oocyte to embryonic life. Also, ZAR1 proteins contain an important functional domain that is conserved through vertebrate evolution.
GeneFunction Wu et al. (2003) Cloned Zar1 orthologs from different vertebrate models including zebrafish. Zebrafish Zar1 orthologs were cloned by reverse transcription- polymerase chain reaction and rapid amplification of cDNA ends analysis of ovarian mRNA. Zar1 gene encoded a protein of 329 amino acids and shared 50.8% to 88.1% amino acid identity with other vertebrate models (Mouse, rat, frog, pufferfish). N- termini of Zar1 orthologs show high sequence identity among these various proteins. The C termini are highly conserved. These findings showed that Carboxyl termini are important functional domains in vertebrate evolution and may be important factors for normal female reproduction in transition from oocyte to embryonic life.
GeneCloning zar1 clone MGC:173648 is present in a vector pME18S-FL3.
GeneStructure Zar1 gene encodes a single transcript. The transcript ENSDART00000004625 consist of 4 exons and is 1,196 bps in length. The protein product ENSDARP00000022641 consist of 329 residues.
