GeneFunction Weidinger et al (2005) Reported that sp5 is largely coexpressed with sp5 like(sp5l) during gastrulation.It was shown that sp5 expression is activated by wnt signaling at mid brain and hind brain boundary. A knockdown of sp5 blocked the splicing of sp5 message and resulted in expansion of flh expression during early gastrulation. A combined knockdown of s5 and sp5l lead to synergestic and dramatic radicalization of flh thus suggesting that sp5 and sp5l act redundantly in dorsoventral mesoderm patterning.
