GeneDescription This intronless gene encodes a member of the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family of transcription factors involved in the regulation of embryonic development and in the determination of the cell fate.
GeneFunction Mavropoulos et al. (2005) reported that sox4b gene is required for proper endocrine cell differentiation .Sox4b is strongly expressed in pancreatic analage. The transcripts of sox4b were detected as early as 5 somite stage in the mid trunk endodermal region which is the prospective pancreatic region. At 12 somite stage the sox4b expressing cells are arranged in a one cell thick V- shaped domain and this expression persists till 24 hpf in this region. It was found that sox4b plays a crucial role in glacagon development. To confirm that two MOs were developed by injecting antisense oligonucleotides and it was found that these sox knockdowns showed a drastic decrease in glucagon expressing cells.
