GeneDescription Phosphoglucomutase 3 is a gene which mainly functions in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis by catalyzing the transfer of phosphate between the 1- and 6- position of glucose. It has been suspected that pgm3 may have other functions in metabolism which are so far unrecognized, a view supported by the finding that PGM2 shows a remarkable phosphopentomutase activity unique to this isoform.
GeneFunction Thisse et al. (2004), studied the expression pattern of pgm3 in various developmental stages of zebrafish embryo. The first sight of expression starts at 20-25 somite stage to prim-5 stages where pgm3 is expressed at intermediate cell mass of mesoderm. At prim-15 to prim-25 stage the expression is seen in the blood.

GeneStructure Pgm3 encodes for a single transcript ENSDART00000039987 which consists of 13 exons and is 2,731 bps in length. The protein product ENSDARP00000039986 consists of 545 residues.
