GeneDescription Kinesin are members of a superfamily of proteins that function as molecular motors. The kinesin-related proteins are involved in functions related to movements of organelles, microtubules, or chromosomes along microtubules.
GeneFunction Chen et al. (2002) investigated the kinesin-like proteins (KLPs) of the zebrafish, Danio rerio, to understand the functions of microtubule motors in vertebrate development. They described the structure, intracellular distribution, and function of zebrafish mitotic KLP1 (Mklp1). Their results indicated that the zebrafish kinesin-like protein 1 motor performs a critical function that is required for completion of embryonic cytokinesis.By expressing a dominant-negative form of the kinesin-like protein, kif23, Li et al. (2008) demonstrated that its recruitment to the furrow region is required for VAMP-2 vesicle transport. Through FRAP analysis, Li et al. (2008) further reported that kif23 localization is also Ca(2+)-dependent.
GeneCloning Kif23 is contained in the BAC clone named DKEY-45F10 (Library: Daniokey; Vector: pIndigoBAC-536)
