GeneDescription CD41+ cells from the zebrafish aorta, gonads and mesonephros (AGM) first colonized the developing thymus, a hallmark of embryonic hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in other vertebrate species.
GeneFunction Bertrand JY et al.,2005 have identified and prospectively isolated HSC precursor cells arising from AGM by CD41 (itga2b) and cmyb expression. Unlike EMPs, CD41+ AGM cells colonize the thymus to generate rag2+ T lymphocyte precursors. They showed that expression of CD41 and cmyb marks nascent HSCs in the zebrafish AGM, and provide the means to further dissect HSC generation and function in the early vertebrate embryo.Lin HF et al.,2005 cloned zebrafish CD41 cDNA (alpha(IIb), glycoprotein IIb [GPIIb]) and its promoter and have generated transgenic zebrafish lines with green fluorescent protein (GFP)-tagged thrombocytes. Since, CD41, the α subunit of the platelet integrin CD41/CD61 (αIIb/β3, glycoprotein IIb [GPIIb]/GPIIIa) complex, another candidate platelet-specific protein, is clearly expressed on the surface of early megakaryocyte/platelet progenitors as well as on mature platelets they suggested that is an ideal developmental for studying the thrombocyte development in zebrafish.
