Description Iroquois homeobox Protein 1, b
GenomicLocation chromosome 19 28613319-28616331 reverse strand
ExternalIDs Entrez:114430;UniGene:77235 ZFIN:ZDB-GENE-010716-1;
TranscriptID ENSDART:ENSDART00000079114; ENSDART:ENSDART00000130922
mRNA NCBI:NM_131823
GeneDescription iro7 is expressed during gastrulation along with iro1 in a compartment of the dorsal ectoderm that includes the prospective midbrain-hindbrain domain, the adjacent neural crest and the trigeminal placodes in the epidermis
GeneFunction Glavis et al. (2004) analyzed the expression and function of Iro1 (irx1b)in zebrafish embryos.They also compared the expression with preplacodal and placodal markers.Their results indicated that iro1 genes are expressed in the preplacodal region.
Joseph et al. (2004) demonstrated that zebrafish irx1b is expressed in the restricted subset of ventricular myocytes within the embryonic zebrafish heart. They also reported that the expression of irx1b is altered in silent heart genetic mutant embryos. They further demonstrated that an injection of morpholino oligonucleotide directed against irx1b slowed the neart rate.
Schlopp et al. (2007) proposed that before zona limitans intrathalamica is induced by otx2 and that it is posteriorly restricted by irx1b.

GeneCloning It is contained in a clone MGC:100765 (Vector : pDNR-LIB)
GeneStructure This gene encodes a single transcript:

(ENSDART00000079114) consist of 4 exons and is 1,741 bps in length. The protein product (ENSDARP00000073569) consist of 445 residues.

DisordersAndMutations The irx1b gene function is altered in the silent heart mutant embryos.
Morpholino MO1-irx1b(5'-GCGTGGAGAGGACGGCATTACACCC - 3') was used against irx1b to study the effect on zebrafish embryos.
