GeneDescription Hspb8 is a member of heat shock protein family with their relative abundance in the broad spectrum of embryonic and adult libraries.
GeneFunction Elicker et al. (2007) reported the identification of 13 zebrafish sHSPs. Of these, 6 new Zebrafish sHSPs, were found to be orthologous to the tetrapod genes hspb7 and hspb8. Analysis of synteny between Zebrafish and human genomes are relatively well conserved, with less strong conservation for hspb8, hspb3, hspb4 and hspb5a. upon one-hour heat shock at 37C, the expression of several sHSPs, including hspb8 were found to be upregulated more than 5-fold at one or more stages of development.Marvin et al. (2008) characterized the expression pattern of 13 zebrafish sHSPs. At 10 somites, hspb8 was expressed in the notochord and in a patch in the ventral portion of the midbrain-hindbrain boundary. At 24 hpf, hspb8 was no longer expressed in the midbrain-hindbrain boundary and its expression was restricted to the somites and the yolk synctial layer in the yolk extension, and it was expressed low levels in the notochord.At 48 hpf, hspb8 continued to be expressed in the somites, and was then found to be expressed in the specific structures in the head. Hspb8 was upregulated by heat shock in all of its normal expression domains and was also upregulated strongly in the epiphysis, heart, ventral hindbrain, and somites.
