GeneDescription Enolase 2 (gamma, neuronal), also known as ENO2 and neuron-specific enolase. It makes a phosphopyruvate hydratase.
GeneFunction Bai et al. (2007) identified the expression of eno2 by RNA in situ hybridization. the eno2 antisense cRNA probes hybridized with the cells that showed neuronal morphology and hence eno2 expression was localized in the grey matter nuclei and laminae throughout the brain and spinal cord and here too the most prominent labeling was seen in the telencephalon, deep laminae of the optic tectum, cranial nerve motor nuclei, granule cell and Purkinje cell layers of the cerebellum and brainstem reticular formation
GeneCloning eno2 is cloned in Tg(eno2:EGFP), Tg(eno2:Hsa.MAPT), Tg(eno2:mRFP)
GeneStructure This gene encodes three transcripts: (ENSDART00000037126) consists of 11 exons and is 2,328 bps in length.
