GeneDescription BIVM consists of conserved short sequence motifs within the variable region of immunoglobulin (Ig) genes.
GeneFunction Yoder et al. (2002) identified BIVM orthologs in zebrafish. The carboxy-terminal region of BIVM shared the highest degree of interspecies sequence identity. This highly conserved region spans 220 aminoacids in human. The corresponding region in zebrafish is 87% identical to the human sequence. They also mapped BIVM to human chromosome 13q32q33 and suggested the gene to encode 503-amino-acid protein with a pI of 9.1. The 5 untranslated region of BIVM encoded two exons; the coding portion is encoded in nine exons. The observed ubiquitous expression of BIVM in normal tissues and the presence of a 5 CpG island which suggests BIVM to be a housekeeping gene.
GeneCloning Yoder et al. (2002) identified anonymous EST (IMAGE 785450; GenBank acc. no. AA449273) and cloned the corresponding full-length cDNA. The predicted structure of the protein encoded by this gene, termed BIVM included short peptide motifs characteristic of an immunoglobinIg) variable(V) region.
GeneStructure This gene encodes for two transcripts. The transcript ENSDART00000132456 has 10 exons and 1946 bp and transcript ENSDART00000087563 has 9 exons and 1521 bp
